Bringing this condo’s full potential out with modernization and practicality took creativity and thoughtfulness. In this full remodel we chose matching quartz countertops in a style that replicates concrete, throughout for continuity. Beginning in the kitchen we changed the layout and floorplan for a more spacious, open concept. White shaker cabinets with custom soffits to fit the cabinetry seamlessly. Continuing the concrete looking countertops up, utilizing the same quarts material for simplicity and practicality in the smaller space. A white unequal quartz sink, with a brushed nickel faucet matching the brushed nickel cabinet hardware. Brand new custom lighting design, and a built-in wine fridge into the peninsula, finish off this kitchen renovation. A quick update of the fireplace and television nook area to update its features to blend in with the new kitchen. Moving on to the bathrooms, white shaker cabinets, matching concrete look quarts countertops, and the bushed nickel plumbing fixtures and hardware were used throughout to match the kitchen’s update, all for continuity and cost efficiency for the client. Custom beveled glass mirrors top off the vanities in the bathrooms. In both the master and guest bathrooms we used a commercially rated 12”x24” porcelain tile to mimic vein cut travertine. Choosing to place it in a stagger set pattern up to the ceiling brings a modern feel to a classic look. Adding a 4” glass and natural slate mosaic accent band for design, and acrylic grout used for easy maintenance. A single niche was built into the guest bath, while a double niche was inset into the master bath’s shower. Also in the master bath, a bench seat and foot rest were added, along with a brushed nickel grab bar for ease of maneuvering and personal care. Seamlessly bringing the rooms together from the complete downstairs area, up through the stairwell, hallways and bathrooms, a waterproof laminate with a wood texture and coloring was used to both warm up the feel of the house, and help the transitional flow between spaces.

We opened up the room by removing the existing walls and one load bearing beam, but leaving a few load bearing sections and beams in place. Three new beams were flush mounted within the ceiling for support. Keeping in the modern design A Calacatta Marble look quartz was used on the counters with a clean and sharp looking square edge profile. For the backsplash we utilized a 3D, 6×16 in size, ceramic tile that has the look of Vein Cut Travertine. The cabinets are a slab door style, in an Espresso Stain, accented with over-sized bar pulls. A new window was installed to keep everything in the kitchen area new and modern. For function and cleanliness we added a built in microwave into the peninsula, matched with a large banks of drawers to accommodate all large kitchenware. The before and after of this space is so satisfying. When you walked through the front door, the kitchen was closed off behind a wall that spanned the entire area. We removed that wall, and opened up the space to have a more inviting feel. Removing that wall meant we lessened the pantry and cupboard space, so we corrected that with an oversized island including seating, a peninsula with a beverage station, and a display cabinet utilized for stemware, to make up for that. Slab doors made with white oak and stained in a graphite color are the centerpiece of the area. Utilizing various colors of gold, including brushed gold, honey bronze, and champagne bronze we were able to compliment both the cabinets, and the stainless steel appliances A few great cabinet extras include an oversized spice roll out, a pantry roll out, a cookie sheet cabinet, and a functional blind corner pull out in the corner cabinet. Topping the cabinets is a beautiful quartz countertop that has the look and feel of marble. The appliances are all modern and sizable, with a 36” range and hood, a new convection speed oven, and a dual side by side 24” fridge, with a 18” freezer. The sink, made by Kohler, is an apron front single bowl style, with 2 faucets, a soap dispenser, and a push button garbage disposal switch built in. Outside of this amazing new kitchen, we also updated the entertainment center in the family room, with cabinetry to match the kitchen, and a Bardiglio marble surrounding, and we added a 72” aesthetic fireplace accent. The flooring throughout the space was updated using a “greige” commercially rated 16”x32” porcelain tile, then finished with an acrylic grout.

Bringing a dated kitchen back to life has never been more apparent than in this amazing transformation. We all live with our “Just Fine” kitchens for so long. This family had had enough. Today, we bring you this modernized remodel in Corona, CA. The first thing you notice is the stark white shaker cabinets topped with a quartz countertop that mimics Carrara tile. Pendant lights over the new oversized kitchen island, which we extended for seating, top off the look of the new space. Adding light blue, glass tile, in a brick pattern up to the ceiling adds a touch of classic color. Atop the new cabinets is a custom soffit that not only adds character, but helps to conceal the ventilation for the stove and oven vent. A beautiful and useful addition. The kitchen sink is a centerpiece of it’s own, an apron front Kohler, single bowl, porcelain over cast iron masterpiece. Adding a Moen faucet with a built in extendable spray arm attachment conforms with the clean look of the room. As usual we added Lazy Susan’s in the corner cabinets, and banks for full extension drawers into the island for storage and functionality. A couple of accents are the new under cabinet LED lights, and the frosted glass door fronts on both the corner cabinet and the pantry door. But we didn’t stop there! New flooring leads you from the front door, through the kitchen and family room, off into the upgraded powder room. A 6×36 porcelain, commercially rated tile, and of course finished with acrylic grout for cleanliness. In the family room, to bring it up to date as well since it adjoins the kitchen, an all-new fireplace and entertainment center were built. Slate stacked stone, framed outward, to become a focal point in the room sits next to the clean and sturdy new entertainment center. Built with glass door fronts donned with dimmer lights, and bottom cabinets and shelving for the necessities at the bottom of the unit. These homeowners knew just what they wanted, and we were so happy to provide the perfect living space, custom designed for their family.

Project Details

We hope you are as excited to see this reveal as we all were. What an amazing transformation! This beautiful Claremont, CA home built in 1955 got a wonderful Mid-Century Modern update to the kitchen. The fireplace adjacent to the kitchen was the inspiration for this space. Pure white brick matched with a natural “Dune” stained maple mantle. Opposite the fireplace is a display will donned with matching maple shadowbox shelving. The pure white cabinets are topped with a Cabrini Grey quartz from Arizona Tile, mimicking a combination of concrete and limestone, with a square edge profile. To accent both the countertop and the cabinets we went with brushed gold and bronze fixtures. A Kohler “White Haven” apron front sink is finished with a Delta “Trinsic” faucet in champagne bronze, with matching push button garbage disposal, soap dispenser and aerator. One of the largest changes to the space was the relocating of the plumbing fixtures, and appliances. Giving the stove its own wall, a 30” KitchenAid unit with a stainless steel hood, backed with a stunning mid-century modern rhomboid patterned mosaic backsplash going up to the ceiling. The fridge stayed in the same location, but with all new cabinetry, including an over-sized 24” deep cabinet above it, and a KitchenAid microwave drawer built into the bottom cabinets. Another drastic change was the raising of the ceiling, pulling the height up from 8 foot to 9 foot, accented with crown moldings to match the cabinetry. Next to the kitchen we included a built in accent desk, a built in nook for seating with custom leather created by a local upholsterer, and a built in hutch. Adding another window brought in even more light to a bright and now cheerful space. Rather than replace the flooring, a simple refinish of the wood planks was all the space needed blending the style of the kitchen into the look and feel of the rest of the home.
